Experimentation. Transcendence. Rapture.
UNITED STATES | 56 minutes | 2017
In keeping with her poetic aesthetic and experimental approach, Abigail Child’s collage-essay on anarcho-feminist Emma Goldman explores the revolutionary politics and commitment to personal freedom of The Most Dangerous Woman in America. An evocative homage to Emma Goldman, whose actions marked American anarchism at the turn of the 20th century, in a prismatic portrait put together from archival materials, re-enactments, excerpts from her writings and documentary images. As radical and free as its subject, this second component of Child’s Women and Ideology trilogy uses sophisticated formal strategies to draw the line between past and current struggles.A new experimental documentary feature utilizing the life of Emma Goldman to explore the resurgence of protest in the 21st century. The work is hybrid and prismatic, including contemporary footage, archive and re-enactment to expose the continuing conflicts between labor and property, revolutionary purity and personal freedom.IN COMPETITIONCANADIAN PREMIERE
