Winner of the Emerging Canadian Director award at the 2016 Vancouver International Film Festival(VIFF) for her first feature, Never Eat Alone, Sofia Bohdanowicz has just completed her second feature, Maison du bonheur. Under her patient eye, sensitive and intimate portraits take shape, oscillating between documentary and fiction. Bohdanowicz is based in Toronto. Previously screened as part of the Museum of the Moving Image’s 2015 First Look Festival, Sofia Bohdanowicz’s Last Poems trilogy of shorts is inspired by one person: her paternal grandmother. The series celebrates the poetry of everyday life and the impact of the presence or absence of a loved one. This screening will present the films followed by discussions with the filmmaker.
Modlitwa follows a widowed woman caring for her home as she meditates on God, labour and nature.
