JAPAN | 121 minutes | 2007

Transplant the spaghetti western to Japan, and you get a gleeful, ultra-violent spectacle with a breakneck pace.
Sukiyaki Western Django — really? Never one to shy away from a whimsical idea, in 2007 the irrepressible Takashi Miike concocted an imaginary prequel to the legendary movies of Sergio Corbucci, and even included a juicy little cameo for none other than Quentin Tarantino. This tale of rival clans fighting over a treasure when a solitary killer shows up is a brutal homage spiced with a brilliant touch of parody.
