Takeshi Kitano has some fun with the gangster genre. Massacres and settlings of scores have never been more entertaining.
Kitano (Kids Return, Hana-Bi, Kikujiro) recently took a turn into commercial movies. Audiences followed, and fans are thrilled. Outrage Coda is the final instalment in a trilogy (shades of Fukasaku and Tex Avery) on Yakuza honour and criminal revenge. It can be enjoyed as a standalone film, without Outrage and Outrage Beyond. The movie closed the most recent Venice Film Festival. Tons of fun!
