Twenty-three years after Double Happiness, Mina Shum once again tackles the gulf between tradition and modernity. This time, her heroine is a reserved older woman who is forced to re-evaluate her role in society in the face of her husband’s cowardice, casting off her sheltered existence to discover the world and herself.
